About a month ago, P and I went to check out NUMUS’ presentation of REVOLVER/RUBBER SOUL – done by the “The Urban Monks” and members of the WLU music program.
Holy Shit it was so good.
Like, not just “yeah, that was a good bunch of Beatles covers” but actually like “WOWZA THAT WAS AWESOME”
And even P thought that – and if you know him, you know he is more than compulsive about The Fab Four.
Highlights for me included anything to do with the Sitar – such a beautiful and unique instrument, no? And Yellow Submarine – OMG so good. The drummer who was pretty chill until then piped up and gave’er and there was a band and all kinds of sweet sound fq as per the recording.
Totally a great night out, totally affordable, and not something that you can see “whenever” …
The Urban Monks are a great band – and show so much respect for the original recordings that it’s nice to just close your eyes and pretend it’s 1965.
So… i feel extremely compelled to tell you that this FRIDAY – YES, TOMORROW, they are performing Sergeant Peppers and Magical Mystery Tour. It’s going to be great. You need to go.
Tix are $35 and available at the door, or by calling the Conrad Centre.
Details are HERE.
They’re doing the White Album next. BEYOND PSYCHED.
Dec or Jan i think.
