If you attended the Minds Eye Studio show “FUEL” a few months back, i’m sure you don’t need any convincing to pick up a ticket for the opening night of the next show “POPkw” coming up next week -

But for those of you who do – lemme just say – BUY A TICKET.

This show – Paradigms of Perception (POP) – features 5 artists including Nik Harron and Christine Reid – and will be headlined by Meghan Sims.

Jenn’s events are always a place to catch up with people you haven’t seen out in a while, have great music, snacks, wine and wine. Did i say we drink a lot of wine?

You can buy art too – so put that shit from Ikea on the curb and bring your checkbook.

Alright. Do I have to say it again? GO BUY A TICKET.

(And if you’re busy for some reason next Thursday – check out the show during it’s regular hours over the weekend. More Artist and Hour detail HERE.)

It’s a very busy weekend for the art loving community in Waterloo Region -

- FRIDAY -

1. Art Movement at the Button Factory is Friday 5pm-7pm put together by Art Allies.

19 local artists show off their stuff in this 1 room.

The MakeBright preview of this event is AWESOME – so the show should be even more awesome IRL.

Stop by on Friday – or if you can’t swing it you can get there anytime before May 28.

2. I HEART VIDEO ART fffffffour by CAFKA at Communitech event space at The Tannery.

Starts at 8pm – so just enough time to get a bite to eat after Art Movement.  Maybe try out the new Firkin the Tannery?

$25 for non-members, and $15 for members in students. this event is always a great time.

And it’s worth becoming a member ($25 annually) for the deals you get all year.

- SATURDAY -

FUEL – SATURDAY NIGHT 7:30pm til Late at The Minds Eye Studio at 154 Victoria St. S. Unit 7 – Kitchener.

This will be an awesome night of art, music, food by Little Mushroom and awesome conversation guaranteed – Jenn’s space lends itself perfectly to mingling and deep thought… and not so deep thought. In partnership with the Food Bank of Waterloo Region – the show explores “what fuels you” and is asking for food and cash donations for the community.  This event is THE event of May. So be there or be a huge loser that no one will ever want to hang out with.  Here’s a massive article that the Record did on Jenn and the show – and here’s the event site for more details.

See you there, right?

What are you up to tonight?

What you SHOULD be doing, is going to hear Ivan Morison speak at Kitchener City Hall at 7:30pm.

IT IS FREE.

Ivan is in town to give a lecture on “Big Ideas in Art & Culture” thanks to CAFKA and the Musagetes Foundation.

Last night, I was lucky enough to join some lovely CAFKA folks to have dinner with Ivan and he is an interesting dude.

Much of the work that he and his wife Heather do, is inspired by the materials that are found around the site they are working in, as well as post-apocalyptic science fiction.

How can you go wrong?

I fucking Love Raj Patel.

Like, LOVE him.
How can you not?
I interviewed him for an article in qatalyst once – about his book stuffed and starved - and it was so great. Need to pick this new one (The Value of Nothing) up at Words Worth next week.
