You can click on this poster to enlarge it if you’d like.

It’s for The (Children’s) Museum After Dark party – The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party.

A fundraiser to support the museum’s operating costs, I am not sure what to tell ya on this one.

I think the poster could be about 1 million times better – and the Lady Gaga impersonator isn’t doing it for me… but, could be interesting.

Thoughts?

Anyone going?

Tix are $30 in advance, $40 at the door.

I just got off the phone with a dude from Doctors Without Borders…

They’re following up with people that made donations immediately after the earthquake in Haiti.

We all know that the need for relief doesn’t just stop after the devastation leaves the front page of the papers, and there is an ongoing need for money, food, first aid long after the hype dies down.

We’ve signed up for their monthly donation program. They start as low as $7.50/per month – which provides 2 meals every day for a month to a child threatened by famine.

For $15/month… they can provide a month of clean water for 40 refugees.

$30/month – A surgical kit containing essential instruments to carry out emergency examinations and basic surgery in the field

and $60/month – A month of nursing care for refugees from war or natural disaster

Seriously? How can you NOT sign up for this? Spare yourself 2 lattes a month and you’ve fed a kid for 30 days.

Call. Sign Up. Leave a comment.

This is important. Start your weekend right.

So, this isn’t local, but I went last year and it was … epic… to use the most overused word of 2009.

Seriously.
$125 ticket – all going to support the AGO – well spent, if you ask me.
I wish I would have taken photos last year, but the theme was “revolution”.
You had to push through some dudes dressed as riot police to get into the party. Then a fake John and Yoko had a full bed-in. Later on, they disappeared and this hot chic in lingerie with a gorilla mask on, posed on the bed while a gazillion photogs had a staged shoot with her.
All this, while a ton of pretentious young people got smashed on the open bar in the middle of the 3rd floor of the Art Gallery of Ontario.
COME. ON.
Anyone wanna go? The theme this year is Speakeasy.

Oh man, it’s an action packed week at RQ!

Let’s start things off!
On Saturday, P and I stopped in at Value Village for a quick look around. I tried on a couple things and bought a shirt and a pretty sweet equestrian inspired belt. I also tried on a genius of a dress that looked bad on me due to lack of height.
I bought it anyways… and thought we could auction it off here, on RQ!
Here’s the details:
  • Size 9/10
  • Black
  • From Banana Republic
  • Wool/Cotton Blend (very soft fabric)
  • Scoop neck, three buttons and cinching around the waist.
  • Very new.
  • If you’re 5′5ish, it’ll come to just above your knees i think.
  • ALL PROCEEDS WILL GO TO: doctors without borders.

So here’s the deal, the dress is gorgeous, perfect for work, or even over skinny jeans i think.
If you’d like to call it your own, make a bid in the comments.
Don’t forget to leave your name.
Bidding starts at $15, and will go on until Wednesday at 3pm EST.
(If you win the dress, and it needs to be shipped to you, i will cover the cost of shipping)
Any questions,
leave a comment.
Let the bidding begin!
H.

PS. Many thanks to Greg for the inspired idea.

Ok Waterloo – You’ve been off my radar for a little bit these days. But i just HAVE to bring this up:

This Saturday, to raise money for Haiti, City of Waterloo volunteers will be having a charity….
wait for it…
wait for it…
INDOOR CAR WASH.
I’m not gonna go all crazy on you or anything, because I’m still on a TED high and I am slightly worried that I’m over-reacting, BUT:
A) It’s Winter.
B) IT’S AN EXTREME WASTE OF WATER!!!!!!!!!!!
You’re using up natural resources to clean the first world’s SUVs while people in Haiti are forced to solicit the black market for the foreign aid that isn’t being properly managed into the hands of the needy???????????
Ok. Just sayin’.
Car washes should be $100 fucking dollars because they are so wasteful and unnecessary.
GAWD.
In other news, the City of Waterloo will be giving away Free Hot Chocolate and Chili tonight from 5-7 pm (while quantities last) at Waterloo Public Square to celebrate and thank the donors who made the frozen oval of clean water that we skate on, possible.
Almost positive this contributes to why the developing world hates North America.

RQ reader Ramy Nassar is participating in a 200km bike race from Toronto to Niagara Falls in a couple weeks, in support of Cancer Research. His team of 3 needs to raise at least $7500.

That’s a lot of fucking money.
So, they’re hosting a “kegger for cancer” olympic-themed party this Saturday Feb 20 at:
103 Huck Cr. Kitchener.
It’s $15 min donation to consume all the drinks that you can possibly consume. And all in the name of life saving research! Yes please.
Want more details?
Lemme know,
