My cousin Jeremy works at The Historica-Dominion Institute in Toronto, their an independent organization focused on celebrating and creating awareness around Canadian History and Identity. With this, he organizes a lot of interesting programs and events. Here’s one of them that is going to be at CIGI tomorrow:

“Passages to Canada Dismantling Racism”

What is it? A FREE story-telling event initiative that that aims to provide people with a greater understanding and appreciation of the contributions that immigrants make to Canada.

Tuesday, June 8. 6pm-8pm.

It’s early – but you’ll learn something. And you can eat some breakfast…. it’s the most important meal of the day you know….

But,  WTF is a Feed-In Tariff?

“Ontario’s Feed-in-Tariff (FIT) Program is North America’s first comprehensive guaranteed pricing structure for renewable electricity production. This program was enabled by the Green Energy and Green Economy Act, 2009 which was passed into law on May 14, 2009. Educational Forum: Feed-in-Tariffs will provide attendees with a thorough overview of the FIT program from an Ontario Power Authority (OPA) representative.

Terry Boutilier, Senior Business Development Office and Brownfield Coordinator with the City of Kitchener will be discussing the city’s current experiences with participation in the FIT Program through the implementation of a 500 kWh solar-energy system on the roof of its future consolidated maintenance facility. Additional speakers include Cindy Roks, Business Analyst for the FIT Program with the OPA and Erik Veneman, Manager of Distribution Engineering with Waterloo North Hydro.”

Here’s the link to the 8th episode of The 100! It was a super fun episode for me, since Bryan from Artbar was our guest and we’ve been friends since like… the 90s. whoa!

The main focus of the episode was the cooking classes that are happening at the Kitchener Market! (some links appear to be down, they’re working on it)

I checked out a class a couple weeks ago where Chef Ryan was cookin up some slow-cooked pork shoulder with root vegetables. Oh my god it looked and smelled amazing… however, the fucking gallbladder predicament meant no taste test for me. boooooo.

Here’s a couple pictures from that morning! courtesy of Ramy!

Chef Ryan and Bryan!

Emily smelling some serious Sauerkraut and Gavin giving Ramy the finger?

Ryan working up some amazing smelling root veggies!

Ah YUM. final product.

So here’s the deal. You should check out one of these classes – they’re GREAT.  And… if you would like a deal to try it out, join the Facebook group The Market place at the Kitchener Market and you’ll get:

A) A free Saturday 10:30 am class before the end of the summer

or

B) $15 off an Evening Class – which are a bit more intense – which is usually $35, also valid till end of the summer.

IF YOU WANNA USE THIS DEAL, JOIN THE FACEBOOK GROUP BEFORE MAY 31.

Ok? Ok.

Happy cooking / eating your delicious creations!

CAFKA is hosting a talk on Thursday of this week at 7pm, held at the KPL.

“spurse” - an open-ended group of individuals and organizations that work towards the development of new forms of engagement, practices and knowledge – will be the guest speaker.

Many of spurse’s projects experiment with the capabilities of existing systems, whether they be urban spaces, garbage, or our ability to listen. spurse has facilitated projects, exhibitions, performances, lectures, seminars and workshops that ask participants to rethink current concepts of knowledge and being.

They’ll be talking about their philosophy and working methods, past projects, current research, and future projects.

The lecture will be followed, on Saturday May 8, by a roundtable session with community stakeholders, intended to facilitate collaboration and inform their upcoming project for CAFKA.

The event is free, contact Rob @ cafka.org if you want more details.

As I’ve mentioned, I attended this event put on by the Waterloo Region Small Business Centre a few years ago  - and it was really interesting.

Met lots of great people – which was definitely the highlight. Here’s the lowdown on this Saturday’s event… it’s not too late to register – and check out ALL the familiar faces that’ll be presenting some great sessions. If you do something creative – and hope to sell it/make money/apply for grants/have anyone hear about it – you should spend the $49 to check this out:

You can register HERE.
