Hit up the Blues Festival on Saturday night!

(we were supposed to go Friday night too – but Curly Blue Cuter Gecko’s birthday party got a little out of control so we didn’t make it!!)

Anyways! Saturday!

This is Dr.John and his band rockin’ it like nobody’s business in Victoria Park!

Soooooooo awesome!!!!!!! And the place was packed!!

Bry, P and I were a few beers in and having a great time! (cant you tell?!?! hahaha we look miserable, i don’t know why – we were really having an awesome night)

and then Bryan made us some fried Catfish – take that you non-existent useless piece of garbage gallbladder!

And then it got dark and we got kicked out of our sweet backstage digs and we went to see Johnny Lang.. who was mildly disappointing – but lots of people were really diggin it and the new and improved downtown was massively full of people… so that was great!

AND! THE CUBE WAS IN FULL FORCE! You can’t tell in this photo … but look how beautiful city hall looks.

As a sidenote, i’ve been noticing that i clench my jaw together whenever I blog lately. What do you think that’s about?

Just know that when i need braces (again) or a frickin’ retainer of some sort, it’s all this blogs fault.

Alright, tea, then bed.

Nite!

I know, I know, it’s only Tuesday and it hurts to think about how far it is until the weekend … but it’s such a great one that you need to start planning your itinerary NOW!

Here’s a couple things you might want to check out:

Craft Beer and Ribfest in Victoria Park – the most delicious event of the summer FOR.SURE. All weekend long. We went last year and it was unbelievably tasty. If you’re not into Ribs and Beer, a) you are crazy b) there is bbqd corn and lemonade and rides for kids. This event rules. Hope you’ll be able to make it!

Uptown Jazz Festival – Going on all weekend in Uptown, the Jazz Festival is always a good time. 100% FREE. There’s two stages, one in the Waterloo City Hall Parking lot off Regina and Waterloo Public Square… so get out, have some gelato and listen to some goodness.

If these two events aren’t quite your style… maybe you’d like to check out Summmer Jam at Bingemans on July 17. Totally sold out, but there’s still tix available on Kijji. Busta Rhymes and T-Pain in Kitchener. Amazing. Last year The Roots played – we were going to go, but totally bailed due to a hangover and being broke. Totally regret it now, The Roots are awesome.

The weather should be glorious, there is no excuse for anyone to have a lame-o weekend…. Get out of your house and do SOMETHING!

Saw Chloe last night.

It was good – really creepy.

You should go see it!

I LOVED that it was filmed in Toronto and they don’t try to hide it or pretend it’s New York.. It makes the city look pretty great.

It’ s at the Princess till April 22nd.

Also playing until the 22nd is the doc about Neil Young loving Rock. COME ON. A must see.

Here’s some things you need to know about the Weekend… in no particular order.

1. It’s EARTH HOUR on Saturday.  8:30 – 9:30 pm. Turn the lights off you. I will be biking around town throwing eggs at houses with lights on. You’ve been warned.

2.  Saturday during the day is the “GRAND MUSIC UNCONFERENCE” Go to Opus Lounge (on top of the Pizza Pizza, across from city hall) and meet with some people who want to start some sort of awards thingidythingy to celebrate the local music scene.

3. Elmira MAPLE SYRUP FESTIVAL. You know it.

4. Intro to Engineers without Borders Grand River – Saturday, 3:30, Barleyworks Boardroom at the Heuther. This is not just for engineers. Read THIS.

5. Then Sunday…. there’s the grist mill show that i posted the other day. 3 – 6pm. Music and stuff to make you stop hating the environment and give up your love for wasteful plastic bottles.

There. 5 things you could do. Don’t say there isn’t anything to do in this town.

On Sunday March 28th from 3-6pm there’s going to be a rally at the Waterloo Park Grist Mill to call attention to the way our culture views disposable materials.

Trap Tiger is playing… and The Orfs… and it might even be a nice day. You should come out! yeah – you! with the water bottle – i’m talking to you. (you know who you are)

You can find out more details HERE

There’s a lot of people talking about this little GEM right now… The Story of Bottled Water.

NEW RQ CHALLENGE: if you see me with a disposable plastic drink bottle, you can kick me in the junk.

You know, the opera isn’t for everyone all the time. But it’s a wicked experience.

You should try it out AT LEAST once… it’s like cottage cheese, i thought i hated cottage cheese because i tried it 10 years ago. But the other day i tried it and i like it and now i’m eating it. So there.

Maybe opera isn’t exactly like cottage cheese.

Check out Opera Kitchener performing Madama Butterfly on Sunday at 3pm.

Humanities Theatre, UW. Sung in Italian with English Subtitles.

Tix are $40 per adult.  More details HERE.

PS. RQ reader and KW blogger CJ has posted a great little rant on why YOU should go – check it out HERE.

After some public outrage at RQ for forcing people to read Nickelback lyrics, I’ll try to make it up to you with this little ditty.

I’m sorry, it won’t happen again.

Was chatting with Sarah Kernohan at the Kwartzlab 5+5 event last week and she mentioned that you should check out this show on Wednesday at Maxwell’s:

The Diableros from Toronto.

And the Sleepless Nights – from Halifax.
(Whoa! this photo was taken by Owen Cherry last time they played Trepid House!)

Not too sure how much cover is… but you can afford it.
Especially if you have a student card.
