A couple days before Steel Rails, Jenn and I were emailed by Von at Huckleberry Film Studios. Wondering if their crew could come to the event and make a short film piece about it. I was skeptical. I totally admit it. Sorry!!

But, the day of the event, while in a flurry of INSANITY at the train, Von stopped in and we started talking about WHY this night is such a thing. Why all of you awesome people buy tickets, why collaborators spend weeks and months creating art for it and why there is such an appetite for this type of event in Waterloo Region… and this AMAZING vid sums it up, perfectly.

I can’t actually believe how amazing it looks. But a warning – there is some @angrycelery overload, so if you find me and my voice revolting, i’d skip it.

Steel Rail Sessions 2011 from Huckleberry Film-Studios on Vimeo.

Thank you so much Huckleberry Film Studios. This is a beautiful piece to be able to share.

I owe you one…. or ten.

So go RQ readers, Like them on Facebook, follow them on twitter and book them for your next corporate thing. Huck Films is a serious creative asset to our community – let’s help them keep doin what they’re doin.

Ok, so here’s the full deal on Steel Rail Sessions. Friday September 24th!

At 7pm, you’ll arrive at the train station in Uptown Waterloo. You’ll mix and mingle with 150 other people as they arrive, you’ll sign in, and get your boarding pass.

This will be a good time to buy a couple drink tix too. They’re $5 for a alcoholic bevy and $1 for pop/water. Pretty standard… bring cash.

At 8pm, the train will leave the station – you’ll be invited to wander the full length of the train, 5 cars in total, for the 1 hour trip to St. Jacobs. Each train car is an experience curated by different creative groups from the Kitchener-Waterloo area. Try some apps by Nick and Nat’s Uptown 21 in the dining car, and experience our design exhibit curated by MFX Partners. Check out the I Heart Video Art installation by CAFKA, open your ears and eyes in the Business Car with Kwartzlab & a Special Guest, although, I expect there will be limited Business happening in there. Sit down and relax…  or draw with KW|AG. And meet some new people, or hang out with the people you already know you like –  in Jennifer Gough’s Minds Eye Studio Car.

Once we get to St.Jacobs – we’ve got a couple surprises in store for you – I mean, you don’t expect me to give it all up here do you???? There will be no sense of adventure if I tell you EVERYTHING.

Back on the train at 9:30pm – head to your favourite car or check out something you missed on the way out of town.

When we arrive back in Waterloo – I cordially invite you to our After Party at the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery just behind the station. Oh, did I mention it’s also the opening night of their new exhibit?

Live music, cash bar, snacks, everyone in KW you could ever want to meet.

Tix on sale tomorrow at NOON. 150 train tix available. Plenty more after party tix available…. And you don’t have to be at one to be at the other. Feel free to just hit the party if that’s better for you.

Proceeds from the after party tix will be going to support CCGG.

Have questions?

Post’em and I’ll answer whatever I can.

This is still a work in progress ;)

So??? What do you think?

It’s a work in progress, but we think it’s looking good!

Couple things that are on their way:

  • A Page for Cinq a Sept
  • Direct Links to Ideas Transform, The One Hundred and Cinq a Sept
  • The Local Guide section built out with more things
  • Some local advertising that is non-offensive

Send me your thoughts – hilary(at)RQmagazine(dot)com

I’m psyched about it. Tell your friends.

H.

PS> many many many many thanks to Kevin at Monster Farm for not murdering me. Thanks Kevin, looks sweet.

It’s been tooooo long since the last Cinq à Sept!

See everyone at the Bauer Kitchen today at 5ish!

All are welcome. Especially you, new readers.

As you know, I’m going to be giving an Ignite talk about Blogging on Wednesday.

It looks like some of you are going to be there – can i ask for your help with something?
Karl from Cute Gecko gave me the great idea to do a little experiment during my talk.
So here’s what we’re going to do to show the crowd how unbelievably powerful a community that reads common blogs can be:
During my talk (near the end) i’m going to show THIS picture:

When I do… could you please Howl at me?

I know it’s a little bit awkward to howl in a crowd… but trust me – it’ll be sooooooooooooo good.

Will you do it???
Will you?

Pretty please with a cherry on top?
If you don’t… i’ll look like an idiot… which i am ok with. kind of.
hahahahaha.
Fingers Crossed.

Oh man, it’s an action packed week at RQ!

Let’s start things off!
On Saturday, P and I stopped in at Value Village for a quick look around. I tried on a couple things and bought a shirt and a pretty sweet equestrian inspired belt. I also tried on a genius of a dress that looked bad on me due to lack of height.
I bought it anyways… and thought we could auction it off here, on RQ!
Here’s the details:
  • Size 9/10
  • Black
  • From Banana Republic
  • Wool/Cotton Blend (very soft fabric)
  • Scoop neck, three buttons and cinching around the waist.
  • Very new.
  • If you’re 5’5ish, it’ll come to just above your knees i think.
  • ALL PROCEEDS WILL GO TO: doctors without borders.

So here’s the deal, the dress is gorgeous, perfect for work, or even over skinny jeans i think.
If you’d like to call it your own, make a bid in the comments.
Don’t forget to leave your name.
Bidding starts at $15, and will go on until Wednesday at 3pm EST.
(If you win the dress, and it needs to be shipped to you, i will cover the cost of shipping)
Any questions,
leave a comment.
Let the bidding begin!
H.

PS. Many thanks to Greg for the inspired idea.
