Here’s some more details,

Join Pat the Dog for a light meal and four new, full-length theatre pieces — all of which originated from the playwright centre. The smorgasbord of plays includes a mix of works from playwrights across the province and is accompanied by food and the launch of a visual arts installation in the historic Button Factory. Attendees to the November 16 session will be the first to see Gareth Lichty’s newest creation.

Just spent an amazing amazing night out at the Conrad Centre with Marc Cameron enjoying the first night of Open Ears Festival in Kitchener!

It was POPULAR STANDARDS featuring members of the KW Symphony and Gregory Oh. Although their rendition of “Born to be Wild’ was pretty incredible. for me the highlight was a performance of the 1985 “Changing Opinion”, from Songs from Liquid Days – and has a pretty cool backstory in the program (the composer collaborated with Paul Simon, Suzanne Vega, David Byrne and others…) Check out the song HERE.

But wait a minute – you’re wondering WTF is Open Ears Festival anyway right?

It’s a biennial Festival of Music and Sound that only happens here… Kitchener, Ontario, Canada.

And it celebrates : The Art of Listening

Awesome. KW Awesome.

I HIGHLY recommend you check out their site to see a full listing of installations and events both Free and Paid.

A highlight is The Blue Dot Party which is happening on Saturday night 10pm – sunrise. Tickts available at Pyrus Cafe across from the bus terminal on Charles Street. People talk about this party for MONTHS afterwards, so you need to come check it out with us!
Wanna make a plan to meet up? Message me!

We were at the Rally for Sanity in Washington! How JEALOUS are you???
It was awesome. Here’s some of the reasons why, in no particular order:

JON STEWART

The Roots

Yusuf, aka Cat Stevens

250,000 or so people just became my buddies

Meeting amazingly friendly awesome strangers and drinking a lot of beer with them

Hilarious Rally Signage

The best Halloween Costumes I’ve ever seen

The city is beautiful, ever been?

Uhmmm, i was part of HISTORY!!!!! Ok, maybe not history, but it was a pretty big deal.

Here’s some pictures:

Capital Building…

Huge Crowd … with the stage way up there.

One of the many AWESOME signs:

Washington Monument… and the Reflecting Pool (sans Forrest and Jenny)

Abe

The White House….

I am the worst navigator in history, i got us lost at least 45 times on the way there and back (sorry G and P… deal with it!)

So much fun though – very very glad we went and showed our support for reasonability in the world.

ps.hahhahaa

pps. Booked it home in time to see this little guy for Halloween!

Hit up the Blues Festival on Saturday night!

(we were supposed to go Friday night too – but Curly Blue Cuter Gecko’s birthday party got a little out of control so we didn’t make it!!)

Anyways! Saturday!

This is Dr.John and his band rockin’ it like nobody’s business in Victoria Park!

Soooooooo awesome!!!!!!! And the place was packed!!

Bry, P and I were a few beers in and having a great time! (cant you tell?!?! hahaha we look miserable, i don’t know why – we were really having an awesome night)

and then Bryan made us some fried Catfish – take that you non-existent useless piece of garbage gallbladder!

And then it got dark and we got kicked out of our sweet backstage digs and we went to see Johnny Lang.. who was mildly disappointing – but lots of people were really diggin it and the new and improved downtown was massively full of people… so that was great!

AND! THE CUBE WAS IN FULL FORCE! You can’t tell in this photo … but look how beautiful city hall looks.

As a sidenote, i’ve been noticing that i clench my jaw together whenever I blog lately. What do you think that’s about?

Just know that when i need braces (again) or a frickin’ retainer of some sort, it’s all this blogs fault.

Alright, tea, then bed.

Nite!

You know, the opera isn’t for everyone all the time. But it’s a wicked experience.

You should try it out AT LEAST once… it’s like cottage cheese, i thought i hated cottage cheese because i tried it 10 years ago. But the other day i tried it and i like it and now i’m eating it. So there.

Maybe opera isn’t exactly like cottage cheese.

Check out Opera Kitchener performing Madama Butterfly on Sunday at 3pm.

Humanities Theatre, UW. Sung in Italian with English Subtitles.

Tix are $40 per adult.  More details HERE.

PS. RQ reader and KW blogger CJ has posted a great little rant on why YOU should go – check it out HERE.

Sorry for the late notice on this one guys –

Calling all performance artists to submit a letter of intent to Lawrence at the Registry Theatre for the upcoming “Animating the Streets” project.
Here’s the details that i know about the project, and what you should be working with:
- should run during may or june
- should be between 1 – 20 minutes in length
- should be interactive or performance based
- should be in a high traffic area (uptown or downtown preferred)
- and should be during a high traffic time (lunch, after work, in conjunction with another event)
Could be located in a business or in public space/street.
There will be a small honorarium awarded to all the selected performance groups, but this should be seen primarily as a marketing opportunity for local artists.
That’s all i know, sorry dudes, sounds cool – get involved!

Check this out!
Pat the Dog Playwright Centre Announces:
THE BARREL PROJECT: A Multi-Media Collective Theatre Piece for the Entire
Community
For more than a decade, a pyramid of Seagram’s barrels sat at the corner of Erb and Caroline Street in downtown Waterloo. In August 2009, the landmark barrels went up for grabs. Within hours, the kegs had found new homes but left many questions. What happened to them? Where did they go? Who are the new owners?
Over the next few months, Pat the Dog Playwright Centre will gather stories, take pictures and cooper a play about these historic kegs. The results? The Barrel Project: A multi-media collective theatre piece for the entire community.
If you own or owned one (or more) of the authentic Seagram barrels,
Pat the Dog wants to talk to you!
Contact Charmian Christie at charmian@patthedog.org and put BARREL PROJECT in the subject line, or phone 519-886-4577.
So great! Already emailed them about our Barrel!
